Dog Beds – Choose the Right One!
If your dog is anything like mine, they absolutely love to have a soft, warm, comfortable place to lie that is theirs only. You want to give your dog the perfect bed for them, and here are a few important things to look at when comparing dog beds.
When looking at dog beds, you wouldn’t think there would be so much variety, but there sure is! Color, style and filling materials are all important when choosing the perfect bed for your dog. Let’s look at each in turn.
Color
Dog beds come in solids and patterns. First, take a look around your home. What colors do your interior decorating scheme reflect? You’ll want something that coordinates with your decorating, but there’s something else to consider…how much does your dog shed? If they shed a lot and you don’t have time to wash your bed cover ever week, get something close in color to your dogs coat. If you know you’ll have time to wash the dog bed cover every week, then go with whatever color or pattern appeals to you!
Style
There are a few basic styles of dog beds. The donut bed is round and has a taller, overstuffed ridge around the perimeter of the bed. A pillow bed is just what it sounds like…a large pillow with stuffing in it. A ball bed is an overstuffed sphere – think beanbag chair for a dog – except it’s filled with fiberfill! A bolster bed is like a donut bed, except that the raised ridge doesn’t go all the way around – the raised ridge usually continues around 3/4 of the bed or so.
Filling Material
Most dog beds have some kind of fiberfill comprising the filler of the bed. Other fillers include shredded foam rubber, or materials recycled from other industries. A nice addition to any dog bed are cedar wood chips. Not only do they freshen the dog bed and absorb doggie odors, but cedar chips also reportedly repel fleas and other parasites or mites.
If you are lookiing for dog beds, do your research and pick something not only right for your dog, but one that’s right for you, your home and your lifestyle as well!
